Kinfauns Castle T. H. Shepherd circa 1830. Interesting steel line engraving of Kinfauns 19th century castle situated in the beautiful setting of the Carse of Gowrie overlooking the river Tay. The castle stands high on a slope and is set within 26 acres of landscaped and wooded gardens. In the river Tay to the front there are sailing boats. Smaller boats have fishermen using nets. [Original castle was built by Thomas de Longueville, a French nobleman turned pirate. Known as the Red Reaver, he made the mistake of attacking William Wallace's ships as they sailed to La Rochelle to enlist the help of the French to rout the English. De Longueville was captured and he and Wallace became close friends.] The page is 8" x 5 1/2" with the portrait being 5" x 3 1/2". Inverary Castle Steel Line Engraving drawn by J.P. Neale and engraved by H Adlard, circa. 1830. This wonderful engraving shows Inverary castle. This multi turreted mock Gothic palace is the family home of the powerful Clan Campbell, the Dukes of Argyll since 1701. Amongst extensive woodlands, the castle is a fine example of early Scottish Baronial style set amid the glorious scenery of Argyllshire. It is an enigmatic building. Inverary Castle has been the seat of the Dukes of Argyll since the early 1400s. The original castle was built in the 15th century by the first Earl of Argyll had been visited by James V in 1533 and Mary Queen of Scots in 1562. It was burnt down by the Marquis of Montrose in 1644. This print is 8" x 5 1/2". Good
