Kinfauns Castle

T. H. Shepherd circa 1830. Interesting steel line engraving of Kinfauns 19th century castle situated in the beautiful setting of the Carse of Gowrie overlooking the river Tay. The castle stands high on a slope and is set within 26 acres of landscaped and wooded gardens. In the river Tay to the front there are sailing boats. Smaller boats have fishermen using nets. [Original castle was built by Thomas de Longueville, a French nobleman turned pirate. Known as the Red Reaver, he made the mistake of attacking William Wallace's ships as they sailed to La Rochelle to enlist the help of the French to rout the English. De Longueville was captured and he and Wallace became close friends.] The page is 8" x 5 1/2" with the portrait being 5" x 3 1/2".

Good condition with some slight browning at the top of the page which does not impair the picture.

Aberdeen Cathedral

This wonderful engraving shows the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew situate in the heart of Aberdeen as the 'Mother Church' of the Scottish Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney. It is truly rooted in the history of Scotland. This building has wonderful features with spires and many small windows and crosses.The page is 8" x 10 1/2" with the engraving being 6" x 8".

Jedburgh Abbey

This striking engraving shows Jedbury Abbey a majestic building which has mostly Romanesque and early Gothic building styles built on a mound. [The Abbey is the main focus of the engraving. The massive walls of Jedburgh look like a roman aqueduct, the views of the three tiers of stone arches that make up the abbey church are stunning. An ornately carved entrance to the church. The aisle of the Abbey is perhaps 300' long, and very narrow, In front of the abbey a few houses lead to the calm of the river bank where a man moves his herd across.] The page is 10 1/2" x 8" with the engraving being 6 1/4" x 4 1/4".

Standing in a large grassy clearing in turn surrounded by the thick and twisted weave of the "Forest of the Great Web" with mountain behind. A beautiful scene. This page is 8" x 5".

Inverary Castle

This wonderful engraving shows Inverary castle. This multi turreted mock Gothic palace is the family home of the powerful Clan Campbell, the Dukes of Argyll since 1701. Amongst extensive woodlands, the castle is a fine example of early Scottish Baronial style set amid the glorious scenery of Argyllshire. It is an enigmatic building. Inverary Castle has been the seat of the Dukes of Argyll since the early 1400s. The original castle was built in the 15th century by the first Earl of Argyll had been visited by James V in 1533 and Mary Queen of Scots in 1562. It was burnt down by the Marquis of Montrose in 1644. This print is 8" x 5 1/2".

Rossie Castle
