| Oil on Panel
Very interesting and Handsomely Framed European Oil on Hardwood Panel (3/8'' deep) of a Snow-Laden Thatched Cottage. A Lantern-Carrier returning Home in the winter snow. Circa. 1800 Painting does not appear to be signed though examination by a professional may reveal more detail especially if the Old Varnish is removed. The Hardwood Panel is slightly bowed which bears testimony to its time perhaps in the frame. The scene is very Dutch in style and mood. The Building is of Red Brick to the bottom and more timbered to the Gable and 'Turret'. There is an open Wooden Door to the Gable and Outbuildings of Wood and Thatch to the foreground also. Size: 7 1/2" x 5 1/2" frame size: 15 1/2" x 13 1/4". The Frame of the Painting is somewhat damaged but is of the period. Can be restored fairly Economically by a Professional Framemaker using the remaining Plaster Moulding to create rubber casting moulds for the missing details. $375.00 + free insured worldwide delivery. |
